I am in the proces of replacing bad torque conventer on my 88 5.7 tpi gta. When i instal the torque conventer in the transmission all the way until 'cant't put finger betwen tc ant transmission housing' i have about 2 cm space between tc and flexplate. Is it normal? Do i have to push tc a little bit forward to flexplate? I am asking becouse in every guide they are talking to push tc all the way and when i do it i have space between. So i have to push it back a little bit or not? And i am not missing any parts.
Just replacing tc. Here is the picture https://zapodaj.net/0ae0660c7b3b2.jpg.html. Thank you, I'm doing this soon. But - I have a pretty good trans fluid leak just streaming out, when the engine is running, coming from the flexplate cover area.
I have the 4T65E out and don't see any problem with the torque converter, torque converter seal or the o-ring on the input shaft. But the pump shaft seems very loose. End play is 1.7 mm and the shaft can be easily pushed to one side or the other of the input shaft that surrounds it. The shaft can be easily rotated in either direction.
Do you think it's possible that replacing the shaft could cure the leak? If not, Is there something else fairly simple I could look at? Thanks for any advice y'all can offer.
Installing Torque Converter Dry
I have a 2007 Ford f 150, just had tranny rebuilt and I’m feeling gears shift up and down with a kick/bang and getting on highway I feel no power, feels like it takes longer to get up to 65 but once there it drives ok also I’m getting a shake at idle and a knocking noise, didn’t have the noise prior to rebuild. The guy who fixed it says the tranny says it’s all normal that he used stronger more powerful parts so that’s what I feel and the loss of power is a pause in overdrive so I don’t go to fast! Am I wrong to think that’s insane? Can the wrong stall torque converter cause these issues or a transmission rebuilt the wrong way?
